What a great example of teamwork, critical thinking, and the benefits of a system model
Today we recognize several departments for problem solving and teamwork in the face of a crisis.
Last Thursday, BBC experienced a catastrophic water pipe rupture in the Cancer Care Center Pharmacy. Scalding hot water began pouring out of the ceiling into the pharmacy, threatening individual safety . . . pharmacy supplies . . . flooding throughout the cancer center . . . and likely cancelling important and needed treatments. Staff from Pharmacy, the Cancer Care Center, plant operations, environmental services, logistics and supply team all responded immediately and effectively to contain the flooding and protect/salvage drugs and supplies. (Space does not allow all of the details, but this was a very challenging emergency with no simple shut-off valve to stop the water.) Our pharmacy was disabled, but working together the supplies and medications were transported to the BMH pharmacy where the chemotherapy preparations were completed – and then driven back to BBC for patients. The ‘bottom line’ . . . all patients received their treatments!
Thanks to the entire team for quick action that saved literally tens-of-thousands of dollars and more importantly served the best interest of our patients and families. What a great example of teamwork, critical thinking, and the benefits of a system model and resources.
