We’re glad we can help put a smile on kids’ faces.
I got Miss Bailey when she was only 8 weeks old. Together, we’ve been volunteering since she was two. When Bailey was young, we tried to socialize her as much as possible. We would even take her into stores (with their permission, of course) and walk her around the aisles to see how she would do with the people, noises and surrounding. She always did great!
We were involved in one of the initial Bronson pet therapy groups in 2009. She did so well during the interview and trial run. Now, Bailey is 11 years old. Volunteering is a win-win for her. She gets to help patients in the Bronson Children’s Hospital, and she gets all the attention. Miss Bailey LOVES attention. We volunteer two times a month in the Bronson Children’s Hospital. The kids love seeing her tricks. She gives hugs and can “say her prayers”. We also volunteer at the West Michigan Cancer Center.
Bailey’s favorite food is pizza. If a patient has pizza in their room, we have to ask to come back because she’ll focus on the pizza instead of the kids! As a treat, each night, I give Bailey a carrot.
When we’re not volunteering, Bailey loves to go up north to our summer home in Ludington. She adores the water. One time, Bailey refused to get out of the water, and my brother-in-law had to wade in the water to get her out!
Bailey loves volunteering. She knows when the scarf comes on; it’s time to go work. We’re glad we can help put a smile on kids’ faces.
