Our mindset at Bronson Battle Creek is everyone is working as part of our team to get things done and do what’s right for our patients and their families. We recently received an A grade for patient safety from a national organization that is highly respected in the healthcare industry. The designation shows that we take truly exceptional care of our patients. That care is built around safety and high reliability we achieve through teamwork. You can see that as we walk through our hospital.
Across Bronson, we have a management system based on LEAN principles and high levels of communication. For example, both clinical and non-clinical areas have a huddle board where staff, providers, leaders, and executives regularly meet. This is a space where our teams come together every day to get important updates, share information, and engage in problem-solving to address any concerns together. This is part of our culture of communication.
We get a lot of really great surveys from patients about our wonderful nurses, physicians and staff. People who haven’t experienced the hospital in a number of years really might be surprised as to all the improvements we’ve made at Bronson Battle Creek. We’ve invested millions, improved services, improved quality scores. We are not scared of change, but instead we embrace it. We don’t let history or tradition keep us from changing something that’s not working. We really are a different organization than we were in 2011 when we first became part of Bronson, because our workforce is a group that really is up to challenges and keep up with change.
We are the largest hospital in Calhoun County with many services and points of access that others don’t have. We still have a community focus and a family feel, but we are large enough to offer comprehensive care from cancer treatment to behavioral health to orthopedics to expanded neurosciences and more. And it is great to see our hard work is paying off with better patient safety scores and quality measures. What’s also really nice about Bronson Battle Creek, is that not only is it great care, it’s also very close to home.
