We are grateful to have the ability to reach our families where they are

Thanks to many partnerships in Van Buren County, Safe Kids Greater South Haven (SKGSH) was able to greatly increase the percentage of car seat checks done with Spanish speaking families! 30% in 2021 compared to less than 5% in 2019-2020.

SKGSH, the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department, Van Buren and Berrien County Departments of Health and Human Services, Lions Club of Bangor, and the Southwest Michigan Migrant Council worked together last year to educate migrant families in Van Buren County around child passenger safety. These partnerships allowed nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians, who are bilingual, to reach more than 30 families and children in their primary language, making the families feel more secure in their ability to keep their children safe in vehicles. Sometimes it was at a laundry event, sometimes it was at a migrant camp, sometimes it was at each agency. We are grateful to have the ability to reach our families where they are.
