“In total, I’ve volunteered over 8,500 hours.”

Annie Ure, Volunteer

I started volunteering in 1960, after I was told I had melanoma of the eye and had at least six weeks to live. I was worried during that time because I had three children, but I decided to get out of the house and do some volunteering. That’s why I give back. In total, I’ve volunteered over 8,500 hours.

I’ve done almost everything in the volunteer program, but my favorite thing to do is meet people and do crafts. Volunteering at Bronson Battle Creek is rewarding, and I always look forward to it. I think other people would feel the same. A lot of people don’t have anything to do when they get older, so they should come and volunteer their time.
