Thank you to Blake for quick action and a willingness to speak up.

Jim McKernan, Employee

Today we recognize patient safety assistant Blake Hinton for paying attention to detail, being accountable, and speaking up.

Recently, Blake was serving as a ‘sitter’ with a disoriented patient in the emergency department.  As Blake engaged the patient in conversation, he noticed a change in behavior:  the patients’ speech began to slur and he was no longer connected to the discussion.  Blake quickly notified the primary nurse of the changes, and nursing took appropriate care actions and obtained orders for a CT of the head.  The patient was quickly diagnosed with an acute stroke and transferred to Bronson Methodist Hospital for treatment.

Thank you to Blake Hinton for quick action and a willingness to speak up.  What a great example of teamwork that resulted in the delivery of exceptional care.
