In honor of Gretchen’s career and to support the incredible work of NICU nurses
Gretchen’s exemplary career as a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nurse at Bronson Methodist Hospital extended over forty years. She was part of the remarkable development of the field of Neonatology, the treatment of premature babies. Gretchen’s work as a NICU nurse touched an incredible number of babies, their families, and her colleagues. Nurse Gretchen was known for the kindness she showed to the parents of preemies, teaching them how to feed, hold and change tiny diapers so that they could be confident when the time came to take their baby home. Nurse Gretchen would often receive pictures and visits from her former patients and their parents as they grew up because of the connection Gretchen made while caring for them. In honor of Gretchen’s career and to support the incredible work of NICU nurses, her family has come together to create the Gretchen K. Vanders Memorial NICU Nurses Fund, which will support the Bronson Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, specifically the nursing staff.
