I was proud that they performed exactly as trained

Jim McKernan, Employee

Today we recognize staff in our Bronson Battle Creek BirthPlace for raising the bar and assuring safe, equitable care for our patients.

A few weeks ago, a surprise Code Pink (child abduction) drill was conducted in our Birthplace. Staff did a terrific job: securing the unit and responding with a structured, disciplined, professional search.

Of special note, I happened to be on the unit that morning visiting a patient. I was asked to participate in the drill, in fact I was carrying the missing baby band. When I attempted to leave the unit during the Code Pink… three staff members stopped me at the door and refused to let me exit. I was most proud that they performed exactly as trained and did not let their guard down – even for the chief operating officer!

Congratulations and thank you to our BirthPlace and many others across this organization who assure safety is a priority at BBC!
