“I was on a ventilator for 9 days…. but I pulled through. I can’t say enough about the care team.”

Nancy Blodgett, patient recovering from COVID-19

I had been sick with what my doctors thought was the flu. But as my symptoms got worse, I called the Bronson Care Advisor line. She said she could hear it in my voice and sent me to the emergency department where I was admitted and test results showed I had COVID-19. I was on a ventilator for 9 days. I woke up not knowing anybody because my family and friends couldn’t visit. I admit, I wasn’t a good patient at first because I was scared. But my niece, who is a nurse, assured me over the phone that the team was doing what they needed to do to get me through this. And it’s true. Everyone was just fabulous and took great care of me. I can’t say enough about the care team. I was in the hospital for 21 days. It’s one of the scariest things I’ve ever been through, but I pulled through. I’m still weak, but I’m alive. The biggest thing I’m looking forward to is gaining my strength and doing everything they tell me to do to get back to a normal life. I can’t wait to spend time with my grandsons and family and friends.

I want the community to know that unless you’ve lived through it like I have, you don’t know what it’s like. I tried to do all the right things, and I still got sick. So, take care of yourselves. Be sure to wash your hands and do what you are supposed to do.

After this experience, I know God has a purpose for me. I’m not sure what it is, but I’m going to figure it out and I’m going to do what he wants me to do.
