I knew I was in the best possible hands

Liz Snyder, Patient

It was a Tuesday evening and I had just arrived home with my children after a long day. In the midst of trying to put away dishes, a drinking glass clinked together with a coffee mug and shattered in my hand. After realizing I could not move my pinky finger, I decided I probably needed more than a band-aid. Bronson Battle Creek Emergency Department was my first stop.

At the ED, I was treated very quickly and efficiently and was immediately referred to a hand surgeon in Kalamazoo, Dr. Jeffrey King.

I met with Dr. King on Thursday morning. He confirmed I had cut both tendons in my pinky finger and it would need surgical repair (if I wanted to use my finger again!). The more important piece is that in meeting with Dr. King, I knew I was in the best possible hands. He took the time to explain everything and answer all of the questions I had. He kept the conversation light, but informative. I was scared – I’d never had surgery! But after talking through everything, I was feeling much more confident about the entire situation.

Shortly after the appointment I was taken into surgery. The process was very easy, and the staff was comforting, helpful and informative.

After a long 12 weeks of recovery, I was released from my restrictions. I have regained a FULL range of motion through occupational therapy (shout out to Greg!!) and I’m not sure I would be in as good of shape if I had gone with another provider.

Dr. King mentioned I should be the poster child for tendon injuries since I healed so well. To that I say, I certainly couldn’t have done it without all of you. I can’t say thank you enough. What you have done is incredible.
