I found myself in a situation no parent envies

On 4/7/21 I found myself in a situation no parent envies, my daughter was very ill and nothing was helping. I called the pediatrician and was told to head to the ED for fluids and medication immediately.

I work for the hospital and was fully aware of our current state, we were already on our second diversion notice of the morning and in the upswing of our biggest COVID-19 surge yet.

When our nurse came in to introduce himself his upbeat, positive vibe immediately set my daughter at ease, no small feat for a teenage girl! She was visibly scared, but he seemed to instinctively know what she needed.

He took the time to explain everything he was doing, but then took it one step further and explained why he was doing it. I was blown away, I have observed our providers doing an excellent job of explaining what they are doing, but I had never seen a provider take the time to teach a child while rendering care.

Ken R. gave my daughter his full attention, as though she was his only patient, even though I knew how slammed the ED was. He did everything he could to minimize her pain and to help prepare her for what to expect next.

I can’t thank Ken enough for his kindness and compassion during such a stressful time. I commend him for his positivity and for being a shining example of Bronson’s mission and vision.

Thank you for what you do every day and thank you for being a HERO!!!
