I feel so cared for at the cancer center and I feel so cared for in this community

“We are so powerful when we work as one.” Joe Milum says that’s one of his favorite mantras. It’s what he thinks of when talking about the assistance he receives thanks to donors to Bronson Health Foundation’s Cancer Center Funds.

When Joe started undergoing radiation and chemotherapy treatment at Bronson Cancer Center in Battle Creek, he had to take the bus to his appointments. “In my condition, it wasn’t easy to take the bus. As an independent person it was hard to admit, I needed help.” When Joe learned he could get a ride to and from his appointments thanks to the Cancer Center — Battle Creek Fund, he was relieved. “It’s so easy. A car just shows up at my house,” explains Joe. “Having these rides available is a beautiful gift. I feel so cared for at the cancer center and I feel so cared for in this community.” In fact, the generosity he’s experienced inspired Joe to live his mantra — he has now become a donor to the Foundation himself!
