I feel like this is a really bright thing for the hospital to do

Judy Sarkozy, Community Member

I have owned Sarkozy Bakery in downtown Kalamazoo for nearly 40 years. Three years ago, we started attending their farmers markets. The atmosphere at the markets is really great. It really makes the hospital feel less like a hospital and more like a community. And at the end of the day, it’s great because now I’ve got carrots and the other farmers have bread … it’s a win win for us and for all the shoppers!

Since we’ve started attending the farmers markets at the hospital, we’ve also started partnering with the food service department to offer our breads in the cafeterias and for patients. We make three deliveries each week of our oatmeal bread, whole wheat bread and burger buns.

I feel like this is a really bright thing for the hospital to do..to partner with local businesses and farms to make sure everyone in the hospital is able to have great food from close to home.
