Great teamwork that truly represents our positivity in action!
Today we recognize our Emergency Department for their comprehensive, team response to a family in need.
Recently, ED tech Sara Smith was surprised to hear pounding on the doors of the lower level employee entrance. A man was standing by his truck, yelling for help, telling Sara that his girlfriend was in the truck and not breathing. Sara used our Vocera paging system to call a Code Blue. RN Scott Blanchard hustled down the stairwell . . . discovered staff including surgical tech Phyllis Nice helping the woman into the building . . . and used a fireman’s carry to rush her to the ED. As that was going on, staff discovered the man was also in need of emergency care – and others began providing medical attention. Care providers engaged with the two emergent arrivals included Dr. James Dartt, Dr. Thomas Mikulski, RNs Jill Haines, Dawn Moore, George O’Donnel, and Julie Taylor, ED Techs Shelly Mathewson, Tracy Sanchez and Lynette Squires, and house manager Jan Young. A small child was with the couple and needed winter clothing; guest representative Shameka Lawson drove home and returned with appropriate clothing and assured the youngster had a snack and toys from our child life cabinet. The ED care eventually went beyond the walls of the hospital with Battle Creek Police Department officer Kris Brown working with the couple to assure safety in home, and our access center Supervisor Melissa Fuller helping the couple identify and access community resources.
Congratulations to our BBC emergency department and others who helped provide timely, professional, patient-and-family centered care. Great teamwork that truly represents our positivity in action!
