Everyone at the club embraces us and is really fantastic!
I used to work in mental health, and now for the past 11 years I have been working with a young man, Matt. We come to Bronson Wellness Center almost every day. Everything about this club is fantastic! What an encouragement everyone is – staff and members! I can not say enough about Bryan from the club and Scott from rehab. They have turned this into a home away from home. Everything you could possibly need to be active and healthy is right at your fingertips. It’s also a great place to socialize and interact with other people.
The most amazing part of the club, in my opinion, is the way that the club has embraced me and Matt. When we come here, everyone knows us. They stop to have a conversation and see how things are going. Some days, Matt and I will just hang out at the club, have a snack, walk around and talk to people. Other days, members will walk the track with Matt. Sometimes, they’ll even sing to him. They don’t mind when we join in on Zumba classes or turn the weight room into an “obstacle course” for Matt.
It’s amazing to see how far he has come. When I first started working with Matt, he could not walk by himself and fell a lot. He lives in a bi-level house and could not do stairs. It took 3 years to teach him to do stairs by himself. Now he can do 3 flights of stairs by himself. Before, he could not feed himself, seat himself, see, communicate, have eye focus or greet anyone. Now he can and does all of it. He responds to verbal commands, eye to eye focus, facial, smiles, has good touch, is beginning to be vocal, laughs and has done up to 30 laps on the track by himself. I think the club has a lot to do with that!
The Bronson Wellness Center has been such a blessing to him, his family, others and me. We are so thankful to it and to everyone there.
