Dr. Richens’ empathy, knowledge and professionalism made me feel well cared for and confident

John Flook, Patient

I have been using a CPAP for nearly 20 years. Recently I started experiencing much higher AHIs, Central Apneas over taking the Obstructive Apneas I had historically been dealing with, and terrifying experiences in transitions from and to sleep states, during which I wasn’t breathing. Concurrently, while being prepped for a routine Colonoscopy, I was found to be in AFIB, and found to have a number of blood clots in a lung; certainly connected to the advent of my Central Apneas.

Enter Dr. Richens.

Dr. Richens listened to me and helped me organize a new equipment supplier (resulting in a new CPAP), and organized a new sleep study, in the mean while making temporary changes to my CPAP settings which had a dramatic positive effect on my nightly Central Apnea numbers. When the results of the sleep study became available, the new recommended settings were nearly exactly the same as those that Dr. Richens had entered in my machine temporarily.

Dr. Richens’ empathy, knowledge and professionalism made me feel well cared for and confident. The staff in his office as well as that at the Sleep Study facility were professional, caring and effective. I felt I had some scary dragons to slay, we identified and dispatched them, and I could not have done it on my own. I am very grateful.
