Bronson made my mammogram comfortable

Dawn, Patient

The mammography technologist shows Dawn the comfort options for a more pleasant mammogram experience.

I needed to get my annual screening mammogram and it was something that I wasn’t looking forward to. I have fibromyalgia and when I would get a mammogram, my breast, chest and sides would hurt. At one point, instead of a mammogram I was getting a breast MRI since I was able to lie down. But in the last year or so, my insurance would not cover the cost of the MRI. I was not looking forward to getting a mammogram and experiencing the excruciating pain during and after the exam.

Because of my health issues, I have been to some major hospitals in the U.S. and many hospitals around Michigan. I really like Bronson. I feel it’s really easy to get around. I decided to make an appointment at the Bronson Center for Women for my screening mammogram and I am so glad that I did! When I arrived for my appointment, the front desk staff were really helpful. I was taken to a changing area and from there I went directly to the exam room. It was very personable. I didn’t feel like a herd of cattle. But here’s the best part! I mentioned to Mindy, the mammogram tech, how painful getting a mammogram can be for me. Mindy then showed me this curved paddle and foam that can be applied to the glass on the testing equipment. It was unbelievable how much more comfortable it was getting the mammogram! Next year, I won’t get stressed out when coming to Bronson for my mammogram. I know I will be just fine.
