Bailey Karas is deserving of the Hazel Latondress Nursing Excellence Respect Award for several reasons, but most importantly for her ability to partner with patients, families, and colleagues to deliver excellent patient care.

She is very attentive with our patients and families, ensuring they have what they need throughout their whole process in the office. Bailey does NSTs throughout the day and has a lot of contact with OB patients and their partners. She keeps them informed each step of the way to make sure they are comfortable and aware of how the process will go. When in the NST rooms she is very good, not only with the patients, but also their spouses. She stays with them in the room as much as possible and walks them to where they need to go after their NST is complete. If she has to step away to care for another patient, she continues to check on both families to make sure they are doing okay and feel cared for. She is very in tune with her patients and what they need, including the ability to be empathize and be thoughtful with the tone of her voice based upon each unique situation. For example, if a patient recently lost a baby, she is intentional in using a calm soothing voice to ensure a respectful, quiet environment. In addition to respecting her patients, Bailey also treats her teammates and physicians with respect. She is sure to always communicate in a timely fashion so that additional care can be completed as quickly as possible, such as getting physicians in the rooms or getting ultrasounds completed. Bailey also has a lot of knowledge in her job and makes sure to explain things to her OB patients in a way they understand. Our patients trust what she is doing for them and they feel comfortable asking her questions. She also asks appropriate questions to ensure they understand the information. We often receive fantastic feedback from patients and spouses about how calm she is and how well she explains things. If she does not know the answer she reassures them she will get it for them, which provides them comfort. Using these same communication skills, Bailey is also a fantastic triage nurse. She always has a positive attitude even during challenging times, bringing a lot of joy to our department.

Bailey Karas is a nurse at Bronson Obstetrics & Gynecology Specialists. She is the recipient of the Hazel Latondress Respect Award, and was recognized during the 2022 Nursing Excellence Celebration.
